2014 National SCRABBLE® Championship

NSC SCRABBLE players can look forward to getting caught between the moon and New York state this August

Dear NASPA Members,

As I type, a mere three months before Game 1, we have 219 paid registrants to this year’s National SCRABBLE Championship in Buffalo, New York. That extrapolates to what should be a very nice crowd.

Register now and reserve your room at the Hyatt Buffalo. Click here to make your arrangements.

A few sightseeing suggestions

In East Aurora is the house that Millard Fillmore, 13th president of the United States, built in 1826.

Of course, Niagara Falls is a must-see.

In addition, we are arranging with the head of group sales with the Buffalo Bisons baseball team to have a special package available for our players. Check with Robin Gates and Alice Ching-Chew at fun@scrabbleplayers.org.

For a more complete overview, visit the Buffalo Convention Visitors Bureau page.

And, of course, SCRABBLERS must dine well

One of our members, Susan Lichtblau, proudly hails from the area, and she sent this list of restaurant recommendations:

RUE FRANKLIN — It's romantic. Ask for outside seating if it is a nice evening!

SEABAR — Sushi and more, wonderful food. Same owner as Tappo's. Owner Mike is a James Beard finalist and a friend.

THE LODGE — New, casual with amazing decor and upscale bar food.

BACCHUS — Haven't been there for a while, but this one has a highly honored chef.

PAPAYA — Haven't been there in a while, either, but the food is delicious and quite inventive.

OSTERIA — Excellent and right across the street from the convention center.

TEMPO — A bit farther uptown, but a quick drive by cab. Very good, but VERY loud.

HUTCH'S — By the same owners as Tempo. Also very good, and VERY loud.

More surprises to come for the 2014 National SCRABBLE Championship!
