December 9, 2011: Joel Sherman scores record 803 points

At the Northeast SCRABBLE® Championship tournament in Stamford, CT, Joel Sherman, the 1997 world and 2002 national champion, set the new NASPA and world record for highest score in a tournament game using OTCWL, 803 points. His opponent Bradley Robbins, a member of the 2010 School SCRABBLE championship winning team, scored 285 points.

Joel made seven bingos, CRUMPLED, OUTRATED, COTHURNI, TRAVOISE, SHAKING, AVENGED and AIRLINE, which ties the record for most bingos by one player. Bradley made one bingo, ISOLATES, bringing the total to eight which ties the record for most bingos by both players. The game can be reviewed at cross-tables.com.

December 1, 2011: Lisa Kessler wins CC election

Lisa Kessler wins the 2011 Canadian Committee election, garnering 23 votes to Carl Madden's 21. Lisa's three-year term will begin on January 1.

August 10, 2011: Nigel Richards wins National SCRABBLE Championship

Nigel Richards from Malaysia wins the 2011 National SCRABBLE Championship with a 22-9 +1532 record. Congratulations!

August 9, 2011: Club Sanctioning Fee goes away in 2012

It was announced at the Town Hall meeting at the 2011 National SCRABBLE Championship that the annual $30 club sanctioning fee will no longer be charged starting in 2012. More information about sanctioned clubs on the Clubs page.

August 8, 2011: Chris Lipe and Leesa Berahovich score −25 total

Chris Lipe and Leesa Berahovich set a new OTCWL tournament record for the lowest combined game score with a total of negative 25 points. The previous record was −22.

The Advisory Board has published an updated version of the Code of Conduct. The new Code of Conduct takes effect immediately.

The Rules Committee has published an updated version of the Official Tournament Rules. The new rules will take effect on June 16, 2011. The summary of changes was published in the May 2011 issue of the NASPA Bulletin.

Canadian Committee determines the host clubs for the two regional qualifying tournaments for the 2011 CNSC: Cambridge, ON and Calgary, AB. These events will be held sometime in May. Details will follow.

Canadian Committee establishes March 27, 2011 as the deadline for CNSC qualification and June 13, 2011 as the deadline for Canadian qualification for the 2011 World Scrabble Championship.
