Ending Dates for Canadian Committee Members' Terms:
The Canadian Committee terms for both John Aitken and Tony Leah will end on December 31, 2009. The terms for both John Robertson and Jeff Parsons will end on December 31, 2010. The terms for both David Boys and Siri Tillekeratne will end on December 31, 2011.
Two members' terms on the Canadian Committee (CC) are ending on December 31, 2009. Those members are John Aitken and Tony Leah. They will be replaced in a November election. All candidates and voters must be NASPA members in good standing who are (a) Canadian citizens or (b) permanent residents of Canada.
The nomination process has begun. Eligible candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by another player. Anyone interested in being a candidate must notify John Robertson no later than 11:59 p.m. eastern time on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Notification can be made in person, by telephone (519-621-6432), by email (jgrobertson@sympatico.ca) or by regular mail (17 Fourth Avenue, Cambridge, ON, N1S 2C9). Anyone who is nominated as a candidate will be contacted by John Robertson to confirm his/her interest in being listed on the ballot.
Departing members are eligible to run in the 2009 CC election.
The election period will begin at 12:01 a.m. on November 1, 2009 and run until 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2009 (all times eastern). The exact mechanism of how the election will work has yet to be determined, but all eligible voters will be permitted to cast ballots by regular mail or electronically. Mailed-in ballots must be sent to John Robertson.
When voting, each voter may select as many as two candidates. The two candidates who receive the most votes will be elected to the CC. Their terms will run from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2012. (Exception: Because the CC already has two representatives from the Quebec/Atlantic region, and three is the maximum allowable amount, only one candidate may be elected from that region in 2009.)
Once a ballot is cast, it cannot be amended or rescinded.
If two or more candidates receive identical vote totals, and a tie-breaker is necessary, a lottery will be used to break the tie.
Any disputes in all electoral matters will be decided by the remaining four members of the CC.
Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by surname, with his/her region in parentheses. Nominations close at 11:59 p.m. eastern time on October 17, 2009.
