Zarf Timer Approved

The NASPA Technology Committee recommended approving the use of the Zarf timer in NASPA club and tournament play, in a ruling issued on October 4, 2012.

After considering the matter, the NASPA Advisory Board determined that use of the Zarf timer in NASPA club and tournament play is authorized, effective immediately, provided that:

  • If used on a device that can also function as a phone, the device is placed in airplane mode.
  • The Zarf timer is less preferred than stand-alone digital timers (but more preferred than analog timers).
  • Tablet devices are more preferred than phone devices, and larger tablets are more preferred than smaller tablets.
  • The Zarf application is not used for any purpose other than as a timer.
