The 2018 North American SCRABBLE Championship will include the eighth annual Early Bird tournament, which will again be a NASPA-rated event. This tournament offers a playing opportunity to a group of players who can play in fewer SCRABBLE tournaments than others: NASC staff and other NASPA directors. The event will take place in the main tournament playing room and will be directed by John Chew.
Results will be posted online on our event coverage server.
In order to play in this tournament, you must be listed as staff or other volunteers on the NASC web page, or you must be a certified NASPA Director in good standing (apprentices welcome).
If you’re interested in playing, please email John Chew to be added to the player roster.
To be included in the pairings, you must check in at the event at the designated time.
All events will take place on Friday, August 3 at the North Exhibit Floor.
A $5 entry fee will be charged at the door to cover the participation fee and a small prize fund.
This event will be played according to NASPA Rules using the OTCWL lexicon currently in force for tournament play (OTCWL2016). (If four or more players prefer Collins, they will play in a separate Collins division, which will be NASPA-rated only.) Chew pairings will be in effect (with no fixed initial schedule), with Gibsonization. No division will have more than 16 players.
