December 30, 2012: Director's Exam expanded to 84 questions

In order to include questions about membership issues and tournament participation fees, the NASPA director's exam has been expanded from 80 to 84 questions. A passing score is now 76 out of 84 or better.

December 1, 2012: Palazzo and Karanofsky elected to Canadian Committee

Mad Palazzo and Sary Karanofsky were elected to the Canadian Committee. On January 1, 2013 they will replace incumbents Tony Leah and Randall Thomas who did not seek re-election.

August 15, 2012: Nigel Richards wins 2012 NSC

Nigel Richards has won the 2012 National SCRABBLE Championship in Orlando, Florida. This is his third consecutive title and fourth overall, both unprecedented achievements. He is also the reigning World Champion.

Both Richards and the runner-up, 1994 champion David Gibson, won 22 games (out of 31) but Richards had accumulated a better spread (+1579 vs. +1563, a difference of only 16 points) after winning the final game against Gibson by 177 points (475 to 298). Jesse Day finisher third.

Sam Kantimathi won the Collins division with a 24-7 +481 record. Brian Bowman was second and the 1999 World Champion Joel Wapnick third.

Adam Ginzberg won the second division, Chris Canik the third division and Amalan Iyengar the fourth division.

July 28, 2012: Director's Exam expanded

Club/Director Committee expands the NASPA director's exam from 75 to 80 questions. A passing grade is now 72 out of 80 instead of 68 out of 75.
