Michael Wise was the eponym for NASPA's Michael Wise Person of the Year Award, which he won in 1993, when it was known as the NSA Director of the Year Award. He was the director of the Toronto SCRABBLE Club for many years, directed the 1993 World SCRABBLE Championship, founded the Canadian National SCRABBLE Championship, and was a founding member of the NSA Advisory Board. He died in 1998, survived by his wife Lynda (also a certified NSA director) and two children.
