To reduce the number of tally slip errors, some directors use a friend of the director system, where a small fine/fee is charged to a player for tally slip errors. It is also known by the acronym FOTD.

How it works

Typically, if there is an error or omission on a tally slip, each player is charged $1. All monies collected either go into the prize pool, go to the data entry person, or are awarded in a drawing as prizes to players who made no errors.

Directors who plan to use FOTD during their tournament must advertise that fact in advance in the tournament description.
