The NASPA Executive Committee has determined that all members of that committee should serve as ex officio members of all other NASPA committees.  Accordingly, Dallas Johnson has been added as an ex officio member of all NASPA committees on which he was not already a member, and Chris Cree and John Chew have been added to the International Committee, so that they are now ex officio members of all committees as well.

In order to include questions about membership issues and tournament participation fees, the NASPA director's exam has been expanded from 80 to 84 questions.  A passing score is now 76 out of 84 or better.

Mad Palazzo and Sary Karanofsky were elected to the Canadian Committee.  On January 1, 2013 they will replace incumbents Tony Leah and Randall Thomas who did not seek re-election.
 
 
 
=== August 15, 2012: Nigel Richards wins 2012 NSC ===
 
 
 
[[Nigel Richards]] has won the [[2012 National SCRABBLE Championship]] in Orlando, Florida.  This is his third consecutive title and fourth overall, both unprecedented achievements.  He is also the reigning [[World SCRABBLE Championship|World Champion]].
 
 
 
Both Richards and the runner-up, 1994 champion [[David Gibson]], won 22 games (out of 31) but Richards had accumulated a better spread (+1579 vs. +1563, a difference of only 16 points) after winning the final game against Gibson by 177 points (475 to 298).  Jesse Day finisher third.
 
 
 
[[Sam Kantimathi]] won the [[Collins]] division with a 24-7 +481 record.  Brian Bowman was second and the 1999 World Champion [[Joel Wapnick]] third.
 
 
 
Adam Ginzberg won the second division, Chris Canik the third division and Amalan Iyengar the fourth division.

[[Joel Sherman]], the 1997 [[World SCRABBLE Championship|world]] and 2002 [[National SCRABBLE Championship|national]] champion, set the new
 
NASPA and world [[Records#Tournament.2C_OTCWL|record]] for
 
highest score in a tournament game using OTCWL, 803 points.
 
His opponent Bradley Robbins, a member of the 2010 School SCRABBLE championship winning team, scored 285 points.
