== Description ==

A new NASPA committee is being formed in response to some concerns that have been raised about how and by whom the new organization is being run, and how decisions for the organization will be made and what that means for NASPA members. The committee will be called the Governance Committee (GC) and will be chaired by Steve Pellinen.

In order to get things done and not be unwieldy, the GC will be limited in size, probably to no more than 10 – 12 members. It will be structured as a representative body of NASPA as much as possible. In order to maximize the involvement of others and receive input and ideas from interested NASPA members, GC members will be accessible by email and telephone to others within their region. The group as a whole will be accessible through the NASPA website group email link. Other means of input and discussion also will be explored.

As a representative body of the entire organization, the GC will attempt to be geographically diverse and consist of approximately equal numbers of men and women, preferably across a range of ages. Diversity in other ways is also desirable, though perhaps not as critical.

The plan is for the GC to review and critique existing organizational structures, bylaws, decision-making, and other processes. This will be a lot of work. There will likely be debate and disagreement; there will be compromise and perhaps some frustration and dissatisfaction. But in the end, we hope to arrive at a series of recommendations and conclusions that will help to shape NASPA for years to come. And we intend to do this in a way that is constructive and good for the organization as a whole, so that we may grow and thrive, with a vibrant and actively participating membership.

As indicated above, there will be a regional nature to the makeup of the GC. The selection process is still being worked out, but members should want what’s best for NASPA, not what’s best for themselves or any other individual or faction; they must accept and protect Hasbro’s trademark and interests; they must buy into the mission of NASPA as defined by the Steering Committee, which is to “foster an atmosphere for people of all skill levels to play their favorite game, improve their abilities and above all, meet people who share a similar love of the game;” they must want the organization to grow, in numbers and reputation; and they must be willing to work hard and cooperatively in a group context. If anyone is still interested after considering all that, they can contact Steve Pellinen, steve@pellpro.com. Please know that no immediate decisions will be made.
